WHAT DO YOU NEED TO ELOPE IN PORTUGAL?

If you do choose to legally marry in Portugal, there are a few steps you need to follow. First, you'll need to obtain a marriage license from the Civil Registry Office in Portugal. You can do this by visiting the office in person, appointing a representative with power of attorney, or having a priest handle it if you're having a Catholic ceremony. It's essential to complete this step at least six weeks before your scheduled ceremony.

To apply for the marriage license, you'll typically need to provide a valid passport (or National Identity Document if you reside in the EU), a birth certificate, and a Certificate of No Impediment. If your documents are not in Portuguese, they will need to be translated before submission.

For couples from the US:

In certain states, you can ask your county clerk the authorization to sign your wedding license abroad. If they agree, as a registered minister, my team and I will be able to legally marry you without the hassle of a legal wedding ceremony in Portugal.

For LGBTQI+ couples:

Portugal is a country highly recommended for LGBTQI+ couples! Same-sex marriage has been legally accepted in Portugal since 2010 and is now firmly established within the country.

And the most important thing that you need, would be a photographer that captures all the magic of your Engagement or Elopement.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO ELOPE IN PORTUGAL?

SPRING

March to May: Spring in Portugal brings mild temperatures, blooming flowers, and vibrant green landscapes. It's a wonderful time for elopements, especially in April and May when the weather is pleasantly warm and the tourist crowds are still relatively low.

SUMMER

June to August: Summer is peak tourist season in Portugal, as the weather is hot and sunny. If you're drawn to long daylight hours, beach ceremonies, and warm evenings, summer can be a great time for your elopement. Just keep in mind that popular tourist destinations can be crowded during this time.

AUTUMN

September to November: Autumn in Portugal is characterized by mild temperatures, golden foliage, and fewer tourists compared to the summer months. September and October are particularly lovely, with pleasant weather and a colorful natural backdrop. It's a great time to explore historic sites and enjoy the harvest season.

WINTER

December to February: Portugal has a mild winter climate, especially in the southern regions. While it might not be ideal for beach ceremonies, winter can offer a unique and cozy elopement experience. The countryside is lush, historic cities are less crowded, and you might even find some festive decorations during the holiday season.

Ultimately, the best time to elope to Portugal depends on your personal preferences, availability, and the specific ambiance you envision for your special day. Consider the season that resonates most with you and aligns with your desired experience, whether it's the bloom of spring, the warmth of summer, the colors of autumn, or the tranquility of winter.
