WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR YOUR PORTO ELOPEMENT?
If you do choose to legally marry in Portugal, there are a few steps you need to follow. First, you'll need to obtain a marriage license from the Civil Registry Office in Portugal. You can do this by visiting the office in person, appointing a representative with power of attorney, or having a priest handle it if you're having a Catholic ceremony. It's essential to complete this step at least six weeks before your scheduled ceremony.
To apply for the marriage license, you'll typically need to provide a valid passport (or National Identity Document if you reside in the EU), a birth certificate, and a Certificate of No Impediment. If your documents are not in Portuguese, they will need to be translated before submission.
For couples from the US:
In certain states, you can ask your county clerk the authorization to sign your wedding license abroad. If they agree, as a registered minister, my team and I will be able to legally marry you without the hassle of a legal wedding ceremony in Portugal.
For LGBTQI+ couples:
Portugal is a country highly recommended for LGBTQI+ couples! Same-sex marriage has been legally accepted in Portugal since 2010 and is now firmly established within the country.
And the most important thing that you need, would be a photographer that captures all the magic of your Engagement or Elopement.

The city is generally less crowded during this season, offering a more intimate experience. Additionally, the lower demand might result in more affordable rates for venues and services.

Ultimately, the best time to elope to Porto depends on your personal preferences, availability, and the specific ambiance you envision for your special day. TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL ENGAGEMENT OR ELOPEMENT IN PORTO
STEP ONE
Have a Backup Plan
When you plan your engagement or elopement, never be too set in your ideas. Sintra is known for its microclimate so weather can be a little unpredictable. If you can, get ready at a place near your outdoor location and check if there are any venues that can accommodate you in case of rain or strong winds.
STEP THREE
Wear comfortable shoes
I can’t stress this enough. If you want your cute shoes to be in the picture, please carry them in a bag or box and put them on, on location. I would rather have my couple comfortable while walking through cobblestones or hiking. Portugal is known by it’s hard-to-walk streets so please keep this in mind.
STEP TWO
Leave no Trace
This shouldn’t be an issue in the first place but be considerate about the planet. Being aware of how we're interacting with the environment and making conscious decisions that serve to lessen our impact on nature is the best we can do to preserve cultural or historic structures and artifacts.
STEP FOUR
Trust your vendors
I know it’s most likely your first time doing this, but it isn’t ours.
Trust us when we tell you we know what we are doing and that when we offer advice, it’s usually in the clients best interest. Trust us to make your day, the best day you can get! And that way, you can relax and have fun!
